What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release is a technique which works with the fascia, which is connective tissue found throughout the entire body. Fascia surrounds every cell; it is an uninterrupted, three-dimensional web of tissue that extends from head to toe. It is responsible for maintaining structural integrity.

When fascia becomes bound down through injury, stress, surgery or chronic inflammation, it puts enormous stress on blood vessels, nerves, muscles and organs. Since many of the standard tests such as x-rays, CAT scans, etc. do not show the fascial restrictions, it is thought that a high percentage of people suffering with pain or lack of motion may be having fascial problems, but most go undiagnosed. MFR techniques release these restrictions so you can achieve optimum health.

Women’s Health

This is a highly specialized form of Myofascial Release which involves treating the whole body with a focus on specific womens issues including the pelvic floor and breast disorders.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy using MFR has had great success in alleviating pelvic pain by addressing pelvic fascial restrictions both externally and internally. Restrictions caused by poor posture, infection, pregnancy, childbirth, inflammation, surgery, etc. result in fascial restrictions that can pull the pelvis and pelvic floor out of balance causing some of the muscles to be overstretched while opposing muscles are too tight. When the fascia becomes restricted there is increased strain on the delicate structures. The result comes in many forms of pain and dysfunction including but not limited to: menstrual problems, incontinence, urinary frequency, infertility, …

Treating the pelvis to create balance of all structures is a key concept of John Barnes MFR. Balancing the pelvis and releasing the fascial restrictions allows the pelvic floor muscles to support and protect the delicate organs. This frees the body to allow it to return to its natural pain free state.

MFR is also able to address the common dysfunctions of the breast. Mastectomy and radiation scars can create major fascial restrictions which can result in pain, poor posture and lymphedema. MFR works to release the fascial restrictions thus improving circulation and increasing the ability to strengthen the underlying muscles. Fibrocystic breasts are most likely caused by fascial restrictions which when released allow the body to heal.

What is Crainosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy works with the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid of the central nervous system, which flows through the dura matter around the brain, the spinal column and down the sacrum. Very light touch of the cranial bones can balance this rhythm by removing restrictions, thus leading to enhanced overall health.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient and natural healing therapy and an amazingly simple process to learn. Rei means Universal, Sacred, or Spiritual. Ki means energy. Reiki means universal energy, or the life force energy that flows within, through and around everything. The practice of Reiki can relieve pain, promote healing, growth and relaxation. It can help to restore physiological balance. The energy works with our body’s innate ability to heal. Reiki has become part of what is being called ‘integrated’ medicine, an approach that combines the very best in scientific medicine with insights from ancient healing systems.
